“El Padre: The Story of Hidalgo’s Revolution” takes audiences on journey through the life of Padre Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the Father of Mexican Independence. This new work will take you from his childhood as an inquisitive and highly intelligent young man to the days leading up to his Grito de Dolores and all the way through the start of the 1810 Revolution and his eventual capture. “El Padre” will inform and engage audiences with the dramatic historical events of Mexico’s early independence struggle.

“El Padre: The Story of Hidalgo’s Revolution” is great way to learn about and celebrate the 200th anniversary of Hidalgo’s famous “Grito de Dolores” and the rich and vibrant history of Mexico and our Southwest region.

“El Padre: The Story of Hidalgo’s Revolution” is part of the SAY Si Teatro ALAS Blackbox Series which gives SAY Si’s Theatre Arts students an opportunity to work with and learn from San Antonio based actors. By working with experienced Theatre Artists our students gain valuable real world experience and develop new skills and techniques that will greatly benefit them.

TEATRO ALAS provides students interested in the performing arts with opportunities to develop their skills in acting, directing, playwriting, technical theatre, and stage management. Committed to the creation of new and original performance work by, for, and about San Antonio youth, TEATRO ALAS challenges students to draw from their own experiences, observations, and insights to produce theatre of relevance to their lives and their communities.
