Urban 15--Open Call for Dancers and Drummers

The URBAN-15 Group is looking for performers interested in dancing or drumming to join Carnaval de San Anto, San Antonio's original, award-winning, multi-generational community drum and dance ensemble! Formed in 1987, URBAN-15's Carnaval de San Anto was the first group to bring the rhythms of samba, reggae, rumba, maracatu, and similar Afro-Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms to San Antonio. Since then, URBAN-15's Carnaval de San Anto has toured all over Texas and Mexico, been invited to perform at Three Presidential inaugurations, and become a regular at some of San Antonio's most iconic and memorable events, such as Luminaria, the Fiesta Flambeau Parade, and Jazz'SAlive. URBAN-15's Carnaval de San Anto has changed how this city celebrates, and thus helped to shape the culture of San Antonio.

Now is your chance to be a part of the ensemble! URBAN-15's Carnaval de San Anto is looking for dancers and drummers as they prepare for their 2011/2012 performance season and their 24th spectacular appearance in the 2011 Fiesta Flambeau Parade!
Pre-Audition sessions, which will teach the necessary pieces to audition with, will begin on Sunday, October, 10th and continue every Sunday until Nov. 21st, when actual auditions will occur.
Dancers are asked to wear comfortable, loose clothing and wear soft soled dance shoes
(or be prepared to dance barefoot).
Drummers are asked to bring a pair of drumsticks.

For more information, call URBAN-15 at 736-1500 or visit www.urban15.org.

This project, presented as part of URBAN-15's commitment to international dance and drumming expressions, is made pssible, in part, through support from the City of San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs, the Texas Commission on the Arts, Valero Energy Foundation, VuTURE ART, and the Friends of URBAN-15.
