Van Cliburn Silver Medalist, Romero Quartet
Highlights of the 2010-2011 season include:
• Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Silver Medalist Yeol Eum Son performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 (featured in Elvira Madigan)(September 12th)
• Handel’s “Water Music Suite,” Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite,” and Aaron Copland’s “Quiet City,” a musical wandering through the city at night (October 17th)
• Holiday concert including portions of Handel’s “Messiah" (December 12th)
• Virtuoso violinist Charles Yang performing Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” (February 19th)
• The famed Romero Quartet led by Pepe Romero performing Rodrigo’s “Concierto Andaluz” for four guitars and orchestra (March 27th)
• “Pops!” a Boston Pops-style concert (May 8th)
David Mairs – pronounced “Mars,” like the planet – brings music to life in his brief introductions to each piece. With charm, wit, and infectious enthusiasm, he shares tidbits of information about composers, or backgrounds of compositions, or repeated melodies for which to listen.
With “Mairs Magic,” the wonderful Romero Quartet performing Rodrigo’s beautiful concerto for guitars and orchestra, the Silver Medalist of the Van Cliburn competition, and so much more, audiences of the Mid-Texas Symphony will have a magical, delightful season.
