Voci di Sorelle
Kicks Off 2010-2011 Concert Series with "A Musical Journey Around the World"
San Antonio’s own Voci di Sorelle is a group of twelve female a cappella singers founded in 2004 by Ruth Moreland. Their name means “Voices of Sisters” in Italian, and the group is renowned for captivating performances that showcase the power, versatility, and beauty of women’s voices.
The ensemble will open its 2010-2011 concert season with “Tapestry: A Concert of World Music” on Sunday October 10 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 11 Saint Luke's Lane in San Antonio. Classical guitarist Leslie Lyon will also perform as a guest artist. The concert will feature an eclectic program of music from five continents performed in authentic languages and styles. Selections include traditional folk songs from Norway, Brazil, Russia, and Korea, including the Japanese lullaby “Edo Komoriuta,” Korea’s popular “Airirang,” and the haunting Argentinean favorite “Alfonsina y el Mar.”
St. Luke’s provides an intimate and memorable setting for this remarkable ensemble whose performances have been described as “ethereal and angelic” and like “being transported to another time and place.”
Tickets for “Tapestry: A Concert of World Music” are $20 for adults and $12 for students, and are available at: www.benissimomusic.org or by calling 210-912-9555.
