“A Mother’s Day Musical Shower of Roses” Annual Concert

This year’s program will feature the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio performing music by Latin American composers. They will join the Mastersingers in a setting of Psalm 150 by Argentine
composer Alberto Ginastera. For the second half, the Mastersingers will present James
Whitbourn’s Son of God Mass, written for voices, organ and soprano saxophone. Morgan King
will be the featured saxophonists in this jazz-influenced setting of the Latin Mass.

Tchaikovsky Birthday Bash!

Host Organization: Musical Bridges Around the World

Venue: San Antonio College, McAllister Auditorium

For their 5th and final concert of the season, Musical Bridges presents Houston Grand Opera Studio star and native San Antonian, mezzo-soprano Catherine Martin, and world famous, Russian bass-baritone, Nikita Storojev, singing a fabulous selection of Tchaikovsky’s most romantic arias. The celebration continues, featuring brightly costumed dancers from New York City, Russian-trained members of the popular folk ensemble “Barynya,” as well as Russian accordion and balalaika duo "Kalinka," presenting a combination of unique instruments and repertoire that showcase the artists' heritage. “Meet the Artists” chocolate fountain reception follows the concert.

Stone Carving Workshop

Dallas artist, Art Wells, will share his unique techniques for face carving, copying work and finishing in stone. Day II will cover the use of pointing method, sanding methods and will include hands-on carving time. The workshop is open to all levels, teen to adult.
